Thinking about Yojimbo, some intro questions
I have looked at about 8 of the other competitors to Jojimbo. In all honesty, I think Yojimbo will best suit my needs, as simple and not being very resistive to getting data in.
The reviews about it are pretty harsh, though I am taking into account most all of those are for pre version 2.
I am hung up on a few things. Sync, and being forced to drop cash onto Mobile Me just to make it work. I am not that excited about yet again hacking DropBox to do so, and with it being a sqlite backed database, I am not sure I even trust that.
I am thinking about writing a sync layer myself, to do a real merge, but there may not be enough data about the structure of the database for me to do so. Even then, I have no idea how Yojimbo triggers the re-read of a database.
iPhone, other than what looks like a 3rd party web based tool that I bet is reading sqlite data sources, is that all there is? I know BB is pretty tight lipped about this stuff, but if I can not have my data on the go, that is something I need to consider.
What are my syncing and on the go options, or am I out of luck in that regard? Without getting too off topic, are there any of you who have found that perhaps I am looking at the wrong tool, and my needs would be better suited somewhere else?
So far, I like the app, I did not need to spend a lot of time figuring it out. I can see the lack of folder nesting being an issue as I grow over time. Suggestions on that issue?
How large are some of your databases?
I take it this is just not going to play well with Time Machine, in the same way that Entourage does not play well, we are dealign with a lump database here, and any change, means that Time Machine is going to move over all the data again? What happens when you get to a GB sized database? I would fill up my time capsule in a day or so? Off site backups, unless I use rsync, are going to be impossible.
How locked into this app am I? How hard is it to get my data out? Thanks for any dialog on this. -- Scott * If you contact me off list replace talklists@ with scott@ *
