And now I am back at square one...
I looked at Evernote, Yojimbo of course, wikis, Devon, EagleFiler, SOHO 8, Journler, Mori, and god knows there were at least 5 more. Seems a really saturated market. One in which BB could take it by storm were it not for a few shortcomings. And folders is not my gripe. My needs are simple, and the simplest and cleanest of them, Yojimbo, is not meeting them.
I figured, I would just use Yojimbo. All of the above, I used from a few hours, until I hit show stoppers, in which case support and forums became the judge from that point forward. Or, to use them for an entire day, and still got stuck on some critical aspect.
*Note to everyone, make an uninstaller, finding all the services, CMM's, browser modules, Applications Support directories etc, is a pain in the rear. Clean up your "print pdf to folder" entry as well.
I was putting aside the Time Machine backups failure aspect of Yojimbo, and going to use rsync to create incremental diffs of the database, or build a quick and cheap front end to sqlite to vacuum, dump it daily, as sql, and rsync that, which should be very efficient.
Them I try to drop a avi, of flv on it, and it will not take it. Am I making some critical error here, or is there a finite list of items that Yojimbi can inherit? I am guessing well known images, jpg, png, gif, maybe psd, pdf, txt, webloc, but amazingly, not .url. ?
I would rather not be bound to an app that as new formats are created, I have to either convert, or wait on an update for format support. It also seems I am not waiting on BB to support it, but on Mac OS X to support it, being very tied to core data, core services, core whatever.
Please tell me I am wrong? I almost came to terms with the things I was stumped on, and started using Yojimbo, but having to stop my workflow, think about the file type, consider an applescript to convert it, etc, that is interfering not helping. I sat there wondering why I can not drop to the sidebar, finally trying directly into the app, and still failing, I guessed it was a non supported format.
I also could not drop a folder into the Library, what is the trick? I assume I am doing something wrong, or have some setting wrong, as it was just a folder of images, and I wanted to maintain the folder so the images would stay in a central place easier to find. I suppose I could select the images, and tag them as the folder name, if indeed it can not import a folder. Perhaps a folder drop should auto tag the file name of each file with the folder. if I am wrong, and a folder can not be imported.
Helps pleaze.
