So, I've been searching the Internet trying to answer the question: Is there such a program exactly like Yojimbo that has an inbox? I recently started using Things, and I love it (please no OmniFocus chatter, it was too much for my simple needs and I don't need to be saved by it anytime soon) and one of the best things is the inbox. For any task I desire, I can throw it in there quickly and easily, then later I can go back and sort it out and feel absolutely satisfied on some anal and compulsive level. So I looked at Yojimbo, thinking it would be the Things to my cluttered Documents folder filled with odds and ends (images, notes, links, etc...). It had a quick input hotkey, like Things, it had the fantastic ability to tag my random and chaotic files, bringing order to disorder. My compulsive side started to tremble. But then the honeymoon ended. Suddenly I had collected all my random files from separate folders and put them into one random and chaotic application, with tags! The library doesn't work for me and turns my compulsive side away. I suddenly see a long jumbled list of files with inaccurate and generic thumbnails, I go to the left pane binder and it won't let me reorganize it the way I want (or get rid of the library option...). Here's what I was hoping for: I think of a note, find an image worth saving, or a website worth archiving. I hit the quick input and jot it down, maybe tag it and move it to a folder but maybe not. I open Yojimbo and go to the inbox, there I find all my unfilled entries. I tag them accordingly, and sort them into folders of my design and choosing (and my organization on the left binder). Then when I say to myself, what was that picture I found before, or what was that note, I go to Yojimbo, search for the tag or look into the folder and find it! Also I would love a 1password Version 3 kind of interface for Yojimbo. The 3 column view instead of 1 column two rows (like mail.app unless you have a certain wonderful plugin). The first column should be the binder, the second should be thumbnails (actual thumbnails!!! Not generic icons) of the files (in a nice shelf look like in 1password) and the third column should be the preview column where the item is shown and maybe the metadata associated with it. Tags should go across the top as a banner like in things, so that I can quickly sort through them from anywhere in the application. Anyway, this is just my rant, and I would love to hear your opinions on this (ideally you have the perfect suggestion for me?).
Dan.
